At Tolan Skincare, we don’t just sell natural products, we believe in them. We’re dedicated to our planet and the life that calls that planet home. That means reducing packaging and printing as much as possible. You might see names you aren’t familiar with on our ingredients list because we’ve chosen to use the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients, or INCI, to help us reduce waste wherever we can.

We’ve set up this page to help you get to know the all-natural ingredients that go into each of our products, so you know what’s going into your body.

Aloe Vera, commonly found in many cosmetics.

Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract
Chamomile, a moisturizer with the added benefit of being anti-inflammatory.

Purified water.

Ascorbic Acid
Vitamin C. Vitamin C is vital to the production of collagen, which gives your skin its youthful elasticity.

Bentonite Clay, part of our facial mask. An absorbing agent, it gets rid of skin oils (and the problems they cause) as well as helps exfoliate.

Vitamin D. Vitamin D is nourishing to your skin, and most commonly absorbed directly by your skin from the sun. Used for anti-aging and general skin care.

Water infused with the Common Marigold.

Calophyllum Tacamahaca Seed Oil
Oil from the seed of the Calophyllum Tacamahaca, related to the Alexandrian Laurel. A moisturizer and skin conditioner.

Cetrimonium Chloride
Cetrimonium Chloride is a naturally-occurring salt. Damaged hair carries a negative electric charge, making hair “fly away”. Cetrimonium chloride is the ingredient in our conditioner that neutralizes the static charge, making fly away hair manageable and tangled hair easily untangleable.

Cetyl Alcohol
Cetyl alcohol is commonly derived from coconut oil and palm oil. It’s used to bind the oily and watery parts of many conditioners, including our own, together. It allows the conditioner to spread easily over your hair.

Citrus Limon Fruit Extract
Lemon extract. Lemon extract has many useful properties for our products and your skin.

Cocamide DEA
A combination of coconut oils and diethanolamine, an organic compound. Cocamide DEA is used as an emulsifier to bind our products together.

Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba Gum
Guar gum. Guar gum is a thickener that helps our facial foam to foam up.

Cymbopogon Flexuosus Leaf Oil
Cymbopogon Flexuosus is a variety of Lemongrass. Lemongrass helps lock in moisture and works well with colour-treated hair.

Daucus Carota Fruit Oil
Carrot oil. A key ingredient for dry skin, carrot oils are moisturizing, helping the skin absorb the oil’s vitamin-rich properties.

Decyl Glucoside
An all-natural, plant-derived foaming agent that’s very gentle for skin and hair.

Dimethylaminoethanol Bitartrate
A naturally-occurring organic compound, DMAE Bitartrate is used in our age-defence products for its skin-tightening qualities that help reduce wrinkles and restore elasticity.

Emulsifying Wax NF
Made from cetearyl alcohol and polysorbate 60 (made from stearic acid, a plant fatty acid), Emulsifying Wax NF, or Polawax, is an emulsifying wax that complies with the National Formulary, hence the ‘NF’.

Epilobium Angustifolium Extract
Fireweed extract. Fireweed is used for its anti-microbial properties, useful for helping your skin stay healthy.

Glycerin is found in all fatty acids, including plant fatty acids. It’s a humectant, meaning it readily draws water to it, moving water from the lower layers of your skin to the surface.

Glyceryl Stearate
Glyceryl stearate is made by esterifying glycerin. Like glycerin, fatty acid esters are naturally occurring. Glyceryl stearate acts as a lubricant for the skin, giving it a soft, smooth appearance.

Hamamelis Virginiana Leaf Extract
Hamamelis Virginiana, or Witch Hazel, helps balance the moisture level when used in the shampoo, with the added benefit of helping to control common scalp conditions such as dandruff.

Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil
Sea Buckthorn oil. Used for its skin rejuvenation and protective qualities for millennia.

Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is used for the treatment of dry skin. Like glycerin, it’s a potent humectant, drawing water to the surface and hydrating the skin.

Hydrolyzed Oat Protein
The hydrolyzed oat protein in our shampoo adds lustre, reduces breakage, and softens and smooths your hair.

Kaolin clay. Kaolin clay helps fight trouble skin problems, removing pore-clogging oils. It also keeps the facial mask from caking.

Lauryl Glucoside
Lauryl glucoside is a natural, biodegradable foaming agent derived from coconut oil. Lauryl glucoside, along with decyl glucoside, is one of the foaming and conditioning agents in our facial foam.

Lavendula Angustifolia Flower
Lavender. Used for providing a fresh, clean scent.

Lavendula Angustifolia Infused Water
Water infused with Lavender flower.

Made from peppermint or other mint oils, menthol has anesthetic properties that help our relief cream soothe aches and pains.

Methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM, is derived from sulfur, an element vital to our existence. Cosmetically, MSM helps dilate blood vessels to improve circulation as well as soothe the skin with anti-irritant and anti-itch properties, useful in everything from our age defence formulas, facial masks, eye serums, and muscle relief cream.

Panthenol is a provitamin B5. It’s popular in hair care products such as our shampoo as it draws water to the surface of the hair, preventing it from becoming dry and damaged.

Persea Gratissima Oil
Avocado oil. Avocado oil is a moisturizer and anti-oxidant.

Prunus Armeniaca Fruit
Apricot. Apricot is a powerful, all-natural anti-oxidant rich in Vitamin A. Apricot is very gentle, readily absorbed without residue, and gives skin a fresh, rejuvenated look.

Stearic acid is the second most common fatty acid found in nature (after palmitic acid). Stearic acid is a common ingredient in soaps and shampoos, such as our own.

Sunflower Oil Decyl  Esters
Derived from the Sunflower, Sunflower Oil Decyl Esters are used in skin conditioning to prevent the evaporation of water from the skin, helping your skin stay hydrated.

Vitamin E. Vitamin E has several useful properties. Along with its anti-oxidant properties, it is an anti-inflammatory, protects from UV rays, and acts as a moisturizer.

Also known as Coenzyme q10. Ubiquinone is produced naturally by the body, and used for aerobic cell respiration. Like many of our ingredients, it is an antioxidant, helping to reduce skin damage, fine lines, and wrinkles. Ubiquinone also promotes collagen and elastin, making it effective in preventing the signs of aging.
